Abdelkader Bengrina, president of the El-Bina (construction) Movement, said that protecting Algeria today begins with rejecting any project aimed at fragmenting the country’s collective memory in the service of divisive agendas, including separatist movements such as the Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylie (MAK), which is classified as a terrorist organization by Algerian authorities.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the movement’s summer university, Bengrina said there was no need to reinterpret the movement’s position on such projects, which he described as targeting Algeria’s unity and sovereignty and seeking to sow the idea of a rupture between part of the Algerian people and their homeland.

He stressed that confronting such efforts requires rejecting any attempt to turn regional identity into a political project directed against the national state.
